Arklow Win Garden Country Trophy 2010

Arklow Golf Club won the Garden County Trophy on a sunny but chilly South County yesterday Sunday March 28 2010. On an excellent course Arklow turned in a great all round team performance to be convincing winners on the day:

John Mc Donnell & Paul Cleary won 4&3

Charlie O'Driscoll & Jonathon Groome won 5&4

Dave Wolohan & Brian Kelly were level playing 18

John Murphy and Dave Williams won 5&3

Craig Mc Cormack & Walter Gilbert were 2 up playing 16.

Darren Murray & Tim Moriarty were dormie 5 up

Noel Kavanagh & Peter Murray completed the team line up for the day.

All the matches were played in a sporting manner and the quality of the golf was of a good standard and some matches were called in before reaching an ultimate conclusion. A strong team spirit allied to good organisation and determination by both the players and the team manager John Groome really came togther on the day.

The whole panel really appreciated the support on the day and during the whole competition from the club officers who were out in force supporting the team as were committee members. It was really great to see such interest and leadership and this contributed to the team spirit that was evident yesterday. A thank you to Philly Mc Donnell and Ivan Burrows for their assistance and encouragement.

Commiseration to Blessington Lakes who had a great result in making the final but it was not to be for them on this occassion. A special thank you to South County and especially their Captain Mark Doyle who were extremely generous in in providing practice facilities and an excellent course on which to host the final.

Well done to all the players in the panel and lets build on this success and make 2010 a year to remember. On behalf of the players we would like to pay tribute to the leadership and management of John Groome. He has put a big effort in getting the panel together for the Garden County and the Barton Cup and as he said yesterday " if we all back up and support each other who knows ......2010 could be a year to remember."
